This role is one of a kind, and almost every actor in their right mind would have given a body part or two for the chance to play Christian Grey in Fifty Shades Of Grey. As you all know, Charlie Hunnam was not the first choice to star as Christian Grey, the fans thought that Alexander Skarsgard or Henry Cavill would have been a better choice. Now, it comes as a big surprise to all of us that Charlie Hunnam had dropped out of playing the enigmatic businessman.
Universal Studios is now on the lookout once again for just the right guy to play Christian Grey. According to reports, Hunnam has stepped down from playing the S&M guru because his shooting schedule for Son’s of Anarchy is unable to give him the time he would need in order to properly prepare for the role. From what we know, the scheduling had already been sorted out before he agreed to take on the role. He had also previously asked for the fans to support him in the role and he seemed fully committed to the role. My guess is, that maybe he thought about it and realized that it just wasn’t for him. Maybe he thought that his craft was too good for him to become a franchise actor, like the Harry Potter and Twilight Saga stars. Universal released the following statement in regards to Hunnam’s exit:
“The filmmakers of Fifty Shades Of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.” Looks like Universal and Focus Features are heading back to the drawing board on this one. The film is set to begin shooting sometime early next month, which means that those folks have their work cut out for them.
Now Hunnam has left the project, who would be your choice to play Mr Grey?
Fifty Shades Of Grey is due to be released in August 2014.
