Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson took to Twitter, via his question and answer session with fans #RockTalk, to break the news of a new project with Warner Bros Pictures. The wrestler/action film star tweeted about a “big meeting” with the studio in regards to an upcoming project with DC Comics.
Although vague, The Rock’s tweet has kick started the rumor-mill and is the first to create superhero-hype this year.
Superhero rumors are not a new thing for Johnson. Flashback to 2012, where it was rumored the Fast & Furious star would play the alien bounty hunter Lobo in a solo film. The character, also being part of the DC Universe, led to more rumors of Johnson reprising the as-yet-to-happen role in the rumor saturated Justice League picture. Unfortunately, the Lobo project was shelved but as rumors go, Johnson’s mysterious tweet could prove sunshine for the darkened film.
The tweet of course, has spawned other rumors. (No, Spawn is not one of them, I just found the word fitting and that’s an Image Comics property.) Warner Bros is following the lead of Marvel Studios in trying to produce more DC Comics features. Johnson was once attached to star as Black Adam, the rival of Captain Marvel, for the also scrapped Shazam feature. A scene from last years Man of Steel name dropped S.T.A.R. Labs, which is responsible for creating Cyborg Superman and The Flash, as seen on the Arrow television show. Maybe The Rock will star as Cyborg Superman in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Man of Steel sequel. Whatever the outcome, big things are in the works for the DC Comics and The Rock.
