Marvel comic fans rejoice! The comic and film company has just announced that Deadpool will be married in the 27th installment of his solo series!
Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn, along with a slew of other talents, have worked long and hard to bring this particular issue to life. The comic will hit shelves in April of this year! It will feature art by Mike Hawthorne and Scott Koblish, with “many more” artists in the wings.
Deadpool’s marriage was first breached to the fans at large with the posting of the wedding scene. In it, we see several familiar faces in attendance. Wolverine’s in a tuxedo, She-Hulk is wearing an intact dress, and Nightcrawler is presiding over the entire affair—who knew!
The release followed several other teasers over the course of a week. Koblish and Duggan gave fans a taste of what’s in store for our favorite mercenary in a recent interview with The Nerdist.
“The honest answer is that it was written into a Deadpool story, but more or less as a gag, and Jordan D White, the editor, was like a dog with a bone,” Duggan confessed.
A gag? But what about his happy ending? Surely even Deadpool gets to find that one person to spend the rest of his dysfunctional mercenary days with.
“He was like, ‘No, no, no – this is going to be a big deal’. You know, we wrote it, so it’s not like we weren’t behind it.”
“The fun thing has been – after his misadventures, I guess you’d call them, in North Korea, in the story arc ‘The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly’, he learned a lot about himself and why he is the way he is. He doesn’t really have too much of a life.”
It’s a redemption story filled with fan favorites! The creators and artists each felt that it was essential to bring closure to a character that had otherwise had a bad run. Sometimes, when the running feels as natural as walking, you have to start looking for a place to settle down.
“Yes, this is a knee-jerk reaction from a wounded guy to go out there and sort of do something crazy to sort of jump start a life, but there is a real emotional reason for doing it, so I think that will be the part that will resonate. Then the actual gags of the wedding will be fun too, but there is a real grounding to it, and that’s what will make it fun to explore.”
Deadpool #27 will arrive in stores April 2014!
