Filling the space Agent Ziva David left on NCIS was always going to be a challenge, however newcomer Emily Wickersham has filled the agent’s desk nicely, earning positive feedback from fans.
According to a TV Line poll, 78% of viewers “love” or “like” Wickersham’s character, Bishop. In an interview discussing the poll, Wickersham explained how she dealt with the precarious situation.
“I think everyone knew it was going to be a bit of a bumpy start, but the writing is so great here and the way they wrote Bishop was so wonderful,” said Wicksham. “She’s not an intimidating character. She’s really excited to be here. She’s determined. She’s charming in her own weird ways. I think she’s non-threatening, which I hope comes across. You know?”
We know that Bishop is a Midwesterner from Oklahoma and is married, although information about her husband hasn’t been revealed yet.
“She has three older brothers, which I think makes the transition to hanging out with the NCIS crew easier,” explains Wicksham. “She’s used to being surrounded ‘by the guys.’”
Bishop is a NSA analyst and has gone through weapons and field training. Wicksham picked up a gun for the first time when preparing for the role of Bishop.
“Oh my gosh, they’re so loud,” said Wicksham about her first experience at a shooting range. “I mean, you wear [ear protection], but I was so scared that the gun was like, going to turn around and shoot me. I mean, they are so powerful. But that kind of comes with the NCIS territory, so it’s definitely something to know about.”
