Can it be true? Doth my ears and eyes deceive me? Nay, fellow Whovians—the rumors are true! Steven Moffat has assured us all that the ninth series will air in 2015!
Just like Peter Capaldi’s first season in 2014, the ninth season will air in all of its uninterrupted glory.
In a recent interview with Doctor Who Magazine, the lead writer revealed the scoop behind the next couple of seasons.
“We’re not going to do splits [in series eight], and the same format will repeat exactly the following year like that – so it will be the traditional form.”
The eighth season, with Peter Capaldi taking on the role of the Doctor, will air on BBC One beginning in August 2014.
The newest season began filming this week, with pictures, tweets, and interviews being leaked to the general public. The first photo of the new Doctor and his companion, Clara “Oswin” Oswald, was released on Tuesday, January 7.
Ben Wheatley, the director of Sightseers, is set to take on the first two installments of the Capaldi era.
You can catch the full interview in Doctor Who Magazine, #469, now in stores.
