If you’re at all like me, you’re over the moon that Community is back on our screens, and each week you settle in for another round of ‘spot the guest star’.
So what happens when the star of a show with one of the biggest cult followings in the history of television is set to guest star on one of the biggest cult comedies currently on television? You get Firefly’s Nathan Fillion on Community and with that comes a giant helping of awesome.
Fillion’s character, Bob Waite, has been described as “the politically savvy head custodian who’s not afraid to get his hands dirty but is smart enough to wear rubber gloves” and in an interview with Digital Spy, Fillion admits that Bob is a little “skeevy”.
“He’s skeevy – a little bit skeevy,” Fillion said. “Seems charming, but [he represents] a little bit of the political underbelly of the community college at Greendale.” He crosses paths with Annie (Alison Brie) and Professor Hickey (Jonathan Banks), who have teamed up to investigate and navigate the school’s “corridors of power”.
Fillion’s guest starring role came about when he expressed his love for the show on Twitter and Community creator Dan Harmon replied to him with an offer for a guest spot.
Fillion said of his time on the Community set, “I’m in the incredibly fortunate position that I actually get to go and participate in the programs that I am a fan of,” he said. “I mean, how many people get to say that?”
Nathan Fillion’s episode is rumoured to be mid-season.
Community airs on NBC Thursday nights at 8/7C
