Actress, reality TV star, television producer, advocate. That’s a lot of titles but ones that Orange is the New Black star Laverne Cox carries with style. Now Cox is adding another to the list… author.
The star has signed with Harlequin to write her memoir. The book will focus on her role as a transgender advocate as well as her rise to worldwide fame with the success of OINTB, according to Digital Spy.
In a statement from Harlequin, Rebecca Hunt said: “Laverne Cox is a powerful, accomplished actress and a beacon of hope to countless people of all ages around the world.
“The story of her life to this point is nothing short of an inspiration.”
Cox stars as Sophia Burset in OITNB, a trans gender woman convicted of credit card fraud. However, she first gained attention in 2008 when she appeared as a contestant in the VHI reality television series I Want To Work For Diddy. Though she didn’t win that series, it led to her producing and co-hosting the 2010 VHI makeover television series TRANSform Me, making her the first African-American transgender person to produce and star in her own TV show.
Cox’s memoir will be available in 2015. The second series of OITNB will air later this year.
