Now, are we ready to relive the talent (and laughs) that we were supplied with tonight?
Let’s do this Idol fans!
“American Idol” kicked off another week of auditions in Detroit, and to reiterate what Jennifer Lopez said to start:
“What a way to start the day”!!
First contestant Keri Lynn Roche brought along her guitar and belted out Grammy nominated Imagine Dragons’ hit “Radioactive” but Keith Urban wanted to hear her without the strings. She then delivered the Etta James classic “I’d Rather Go Blind” and there was no question about what was happening next:
She was going to Hollywood!!
This girl really impressed me personally, and her tone?
Following Keri Lynn, was 15 year old Malaya Watson who scored big with the judges with her incredible take on the Aretha Franklin “Ain’t No Way”. Jennifer said it best, saying that it was a natural talent and you can’t teach what Malaya has.
The show had gotten off to a great start, and it wasn’t slowing down!!
Next up was Bryan Watt, who was in his last year to be eligible for the show at 29. He decided to sing Idol queen Carrie Underwood’s “So Small” and the judges were all taken with him. Off to Hollywood he goes!
The next contestant had a pretty big task at hand:
She was going to perform Adele’s “Rolling in The Deep”.
Yours truly had his reservations about Jena Asciutto and her song choice, but she blew me away as well as the judges!! Her distinct voice could make her a serious contender during Hollywood week.
I’m still waiting for the hilarious, uncomfortable auditions….
We instead got something quite different:
It was time for a bit of comedy!!
When Jennifer had to exit for a bathroom break, Keith and Harry decided to have some fun and Harry “auditioned” by performing the Star Spangled Banner. The results were absolutely hilarious as crew members were overheard laughing in the background. Harry then got an autograph by his “biggest fan” Keith and then it was time to get back to work.
The chemistry between the judges is killing me this season already and I can’t get enough of it.
Onto day 2 of Detroit!
Time for a double dose as twin sisters Rakita and Karlita took on the Beyonce smash hit “Listen”…….together.
And it was awful.
I’m not really sure how to put this nicely, so I’ll keep it short. The performance basically consisted of the two girls screeching over one another, which is what Harry said when it finally stopped. At least the girls were gracious and didn’t put up a fight with the exit.
It appeared the show hit a bit of a snag as one after one, the contestants fell to the judges’ critiques and the golden tickets weren’t being handed out as much.
Thankfully, Ethan Harris took his place and, after voicing his admiration for Keith Urban, he sang one of Keith’s own songs and won the judges over pretty quickly. What I thought was great about Ethan was his likability and charming demeanor.
The night was coming to a close, and I have to applaud all of the talent because it was a pretty easy night on the ears. Of course, with the exception of Rakita and Karlita.
Ryan Nisbet was up next though, and sure did make his mark.
Singing the Sarah McLachlan hit “Angel”, Ryan’s unique voice (and interesting hair style) quickly won over the judges, and he may have been my favorite audition of the night.
One more audition to finish off the show though, and Marrialle Sellers unleashed a “Grenade” on the judges with her great Bruno Mars cover. The reaction from the judges was incredible, as they ripped up the golden ticket so that they could each present her with a piece!
Great way to end the show!
The action continues tomorrow night, as Atlanta, Georgia will be under the microscope!
What did you guys think of the show tonight?
