Ellen just won her 14th People’s Choice Award for favorite Day Time TV Host, and it looks like her audience may be growing exponentially!
According to reports from MSN, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” has entered a licensing agreement to become the first U.S. daily talk show to be carried in China, via that country’s leading online video service provider, Sohu Video.”
The Chinese audience will get to see our favorite Day Time darling 48 hours after each episode originally airs, and with subtitles. The CEO and chairman for Sohu, Charles Zhang, says he hopes the show will have “strong appeal and relevance with the Chinese audience.” But honestly, who wouldn’t love Ellen?
“Sohu offers Chinese Internet users a diversified portfolio of top-quality content, with a wide coverage of hot TV dramas, animation and now U.S. talk shows,” Zhang said. “‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ is one of the most well-known talk shows in the U.S., and we believe it could also have strong appeal and relevance with the Chinese audience.”
Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution president Jeffrey Schlesinger says that one of Ellen’s secrets to success is her complete “avoidance of conflict.”
“Ellen has clearly differentiated herself and her talk show from so many of the controversial conflict-oriented talk shows as it has become an increasingly positive alternative in daytime featuring the biggest stars from worlds of film, television and music,” said Schlesinger. “She has an unmatched and unique brand of family-friendly humor and love of pop culture that appeal to audiences of all ages in a very fun one-hour of programming. We are thrilled that ‘Ellen’ will now be seen in China and is the first U.S. talk show available there.”
Congratulations Ellen and Hǎo yùn.
