Back in episode fourteen of Arrow’s first season, a different format of episode was explored, which turned out to be very successful. “The Odyssey” spent the majority of the screen time on the island that Oliver Queen was marooned on for five years.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly Radio, Oliver Queen himself, Stephen Amell, has announced that the upcoming fifteenth episode, “The Promise,” will be set in a similar format.

When discussing the show, Amell revealed: “Episode fifteen, “The Promise,” that we have coming up – and this is breaking news – it’s an island-centric episode. We take our usual format of 75% of the time in Starling City and 25% of the time on [the island], and we flip it upside down.”

“And we built a set for this episode,” He continues, “and there is a shot where we establish where we are and it’s the biggest shot that we’ve ever done on the show. There’s people getting blown up. There’s people getting thrown overboard.

“There are all of these different incredible things happening, and then the camera zooms from way, way, way out and it comes in to end on a close-up of me. And all I had to do was evade a punch and bang a guy’s head into the wall.”

Despite the apparent simplicity of Amell’s job, it didn’t stop the actor from being nervous.

“I was super nervous that all of these really complicated things earlier in the shot would go off without a hitch and then I would screw up.”

Amell also discussed the possibility of a romance between Queen and Emily Bett Rickards’ character, Felicity Smoak.

“We actually had a lot of discussions with the most recent episode, where we are going back and forth with one another,” he said. “We wanted to make sure that this was a very adult thing.

“We had to make sure that what we were doing didn’t devolve into kind of a junior high relationship.

“As far as the will they or won’t they element of the show, it’s really not for us to decide. We can’t play like it’s either going to happen or not going to happen. We just need to keep our relationship dynamic.”

You can catch Arrow on The CW on Wednesday in the US with “The Promise” airing March 5th. Arrow is aired on Sky 1 in the UK.
