Horror movies and I don’t get along. At all. I’ve seen four and four is four too many, in my opinion. However, I have a fascination with their previews. Typically, they’re far more taut and riveting than their cinematic counterparts.

One horror movie I might watch, in the comfort of my own home, mind you, is Oculus. The thriller, set to drop on April 11, features Katee Sackhoff as the scary white-eyed demon who is chasing brother and sister team Tim and Kaylie (played by Karen Gillan and Brenton Thwaites).

Kaylie and Tim set out to prove Tim’s innocence. He was incarcerated for the brutal murder of their parents and, when he’s released, Kaylie makes it her mission to prove the family mirror is the cause of their parents’ death. Creepy ass shiz goes down and poor Kaylie seems to be at the forefront of it all.

Gillan, most known for her portrayal as Amy Pond in Doctor Who, hasn’t been around much since leaving the show in 2012. She had an indie film in Scotland called Not Another Happy Ending, a blink and you miss it cameo in the past Christmas special for DW, and a bit part in Adult Swim’s NTSF:SD:SUV. This year, however, is bound to be the year of the ginge. Not only does Oculus drop this year, Guardians of the Galaxy is set to premiere sometime this summer, with Gillan playing the female lead villain Nebula, the role she shaved her head for.

I am incredibly excited and I hope that her horror movie goes well. Oculus was written and directed by Mike Flanagan and also features Rory Cochrane (of CSI: Miami fame). Check out the deliciously creepy teaser trailer below and tell us what you think!
