The Grammys were a great source of happiness for many attendees, but none so much as the many couples who were married on stage by Queen Latifah!

According to the Washington Post, thirty-three couples, gay and straight, walked down the award-winning aisle. These couples were serenaded by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ “Same Love,” a nod to same-sex marriage.

Queen Latifah allowed cameras to follow her behind-the-scenes as she was sworn in as an official marriage commissioner. What followed was a mass-marriage event, populated by engaged couples who answered an ad in the paper. This ad asked for couples that did not mind a public wedding to show up at the Staples Center stage.

Surprise!

Queen Latifah is, of course, thrilled at her role in bringing these couples together in marriage telling USA Today; “I look forward to a day when doing something this is just the norm, normal special not extra extra special. I look forward to dashing off to sign their marriage certificates. I had to be sworn in as an official.”

While her actions that night have sparked controversy and animated discussion among the anti-gay community, Queen Latifah says that she wouldn’t change a thing about it. She’s putting her energies towards helping others, rather than judging them.

All hail the Queen!
