On this day 27 years ago, a caring, talented, and handsome person was born. That’s right; I’m talking about the one and only Darren Criss. Over the years it’s not hard to see why so many people have fallen in love with the quirky boy next door, whether through his amazing singing voice, his giving heart, or Darren’s gorgeous eyes. It is not hard to believe that over the years he has garnered such a loyal and loving fan base.
Darren Criss has always shown he has a knack for making beautiful music be it through his very own production company, StarKid Productions, in his Broadway debut in “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” or by gracing our televisions on the Fox hit TV show Glee. Week after week, fans of the show Glee learned who Blaine Anderson was; thankfully Gleeks also learned who Darren Criss was also. Right after graduating from the University of Michigan, Darren and his friends founded their very own StarKid Productions, a musical theatre company based out of Chicago.
One of their first projects was, A Very Potter Musical where Darren played none other than Harry Potter. Their theatre troupe went on to make Billboard history, by being the first recording student-produced musical, debuting at number eleven on the Top Cast Albums chart in 2010. He went on to debut his own EP Human, and last summer embarked on a show stopping tour that trekked across 17 cities in the United States, Canada, and France. He is currently working on an album with release date to be determined. The excitement for his album is quite palpable, and has fans anxiously awaiting its release!
Darren is constantly involved with different charities and organizations. The Trevor Project is a foundation that Criss is constantly involved with and is an active supporter of this cause. The Trevor Project focuses on suicide prevention efforts among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. This is something that is near and dear to Darren’s heart, he plays an openly gay character on Glee. Although Darren is not gay, he has seen what his friends who are gay had to go through growing up. Through the years Darren has wowed us with his amazing Trevor Live performances such as his performance of “Not Alone,” in 2010. He is also very involved with Rock the Vote, empowering everyone to take the time to vote in order to make a difference. Darren’s constant commitment to make this world a better place through charity work and song makes his personality shine even brighter.
You cannot talk about Mr. Darren Criss without bringing up his amazing job of playing Blaine Anderson, and applauding his rendition of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream.” He tackled both a classic version of the song, along with the show stopping tear jerking acoustic version he performed in Season 4. While Darren and Blaine are two separate people, one characteristic is constant the loveable quality they both bring. Let’s face it who doesn’t like a person who is comfortable showcasing his twerking ability with no shame? His sense of humor and his goofy smile immediately puts a smile on anyone’s face, and I mean anyone’s face!
Darren’s outlook on life makes people not only want to get to know him personally; it makes them want to make the world a better place. His big heart and caring personality has made an impact in countless lives, whether they have met Darren or not. So, today we want to wish Darren the best of birthdays! Not only because of who he plays, or the songs he sings, but because inside and out Darren’s goodness shines throughout. So please take time to wish him the best of birthdays, and reminisce on what makes Darren, Darren.
Happy Birthday Mr. Criss, may you day be filled with joy, and your year the best yet. Please don’t ever change, stay the great human being you are and have always been! From Gleeks, to simply Darren Criss fanatics, we love you!
